I was at Church and State on friday for lunch and i noticed they have an "absinthe ritual" posted on their bar pilar so i had to ask as i was leaving do they actually serve absinthe or was it kind of a joke? He said yes, we serve it! I said OK, i'll be back later...
I have never tried it since it has been illegal in the u.s. since 1915 and just became legal again around 2007. I love all of the old imagery making it look like the devil in a bottle.





And ofcourse Degas' L'Absinthe.


BTW: If your at Church and State you must try their Tarte Flambée, delicious!

The book is so dope and i have a beautiful bound copy, Tim said it was the last one. Im lucky and happy i went, it was close to home, and i went early bcuz the bf wanted to partake in the free beers. I bought a couple of the posters and now i really want to get a few of the linoleum prints, they are all amazing and i cant decide.

From a collaboration of French animation studio H5 directors, François Alaux, Herve de Crecy and Ludovic Houplain won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.


Its producer, Nicolas Schmerkin, explains:

"It’s about the way we live and the way we react to these logos. The brain can register 14 logos in less than one second. Making the logos characters with sets and props is about what we’re living … They’re used for what they are."


Its extremely cleaver use of logos in specific locations create comedy, irony, and Ronald McDonald representing the villain, goes completely psychotic.

Americana

An oasis has sprang from the dirt lot across the street from the Glendale Galleria. It appears that this is the formula for malls now days. Think the Paseo, the Grove, and Victoria Gardens. They are all basically exactly the same. And also most of these new open air malls are built right next to the old passe indoor malls. Excessive? Maybe.

This is the newest in the series. The Americana, Glendale.


I waited a while cuz I heard it was insane opening weekend. I personally don't really like big crowds, especially at a mall, even if its outside.

Bright colors galore in XXI. This one is really junior driven. I still like the Pasadena flagship store best. Although this has the best H&M I have been in. This one makes the others around town look cheap and tacky. At least that has been my perception thus far, but I actually bought some clothes in this one.
The beautiful Free People store. I could sit in here for hours. Lotus lamps and glittery floral canvas.

This is the only outside shot I took. I think this is the only interesting thing outside. Everything else, from the little iron gates and lamp posts and foliage all looks the same as the other outdoor malls I mentioned above. Upon walking in I got a strong disneyland sense about it. Like everything is fake and perfectly placed. That I don't like. Its a false sense of security. But the atmosphere is elegant and fresh. The pond is the center (just like the Grove) has a huge golden man and water fountain shows, think Bellagio Las Vegas, set to Italian classical and opera.

Its too homogenized for my taste, but I will definitely have to visit the Free People store once again.

Well, LA has had some "unstable" weather this past week and a half or so. Last monday it rained, then steadily the temp rose to over 100 degrees until about tuesday, then we had tornado -ish winds on wendsday, a down pour of rain on thursday flooding and really screwing up traffic and some tornado winds near riverside, wierd strange (earthquake) weather.
I dont know how to get dressed in the morning anymore, do I wear sandals and shorts for 95 degrees or do I wear a rain coat and sweater for the cold and rain?
It is really unfortunate we have this storm hovering above because tonite the space station will be visable in the night sky. If the clouds would clear, or if your in an area where there is no cloud cover and you looked up into the sky at about 8:19pm and you can seen the space statio move across the sky for approx. 5 minutes. You can see it by the light of the moon. Its a solid light, not blinking, and it looks like a huge shooting star going over.
